Executive Summary

Background and research methodology


In order to ensure that the views of the peoples of Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) are captured in the process of coming up with a Regional Poverty Observatory (RPO) as proposed at the International Conference on Poverty and Development in Mauritius in 2008, SADC-CNGO conducted a background study to constitute part of the of the civil society input on the development of the Regional Poverty Observatory (RPO) by SADC.

The primary objective of the study was to generate evidence and get more insights on how SADC member countries have been monitoring poverty eradication programmes in order to come up with specific recommendations on the institutional arrangements, mandate, functionality and expected value addition from the Regional Poverty Observatory.
