Introduction

Through a set of communication, lobbying and advocacy initiatives, rolled out at both national and regional levels, the SADC-CNGO Regional Economic Integration (REI) programme is aimed at promoting people – centred, equitable and sustainable economic integration that benefits all peoples of SADC, particularly the poor majority. The programme challenges SADC to avoid integration that results in most benefits accruing to business at the expense of the poor people.

Rationale
Although SADC launched the Free Trade Area in 2008 and have set clear and fairly ambitious targets towards economic integration, there are many challenges that confront the region and are equally of concern to civil society. These should be addressed by SADC and by specific member countries.
